With the odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot standing at a staggering one in 292.2 million, the excitement is building as the jackpot swells once more.
WASHINGTON — The Powerball prize is edging closer to a spot among the top ten largest jackpots after Monday’s $570 million draw failed to produce a winner. As a result, the jackpot has ballooned to an impressive $593 million for the upcoming draw on Wednesday.
In a stroke of luck, a ticket holder in West Virginia is celebrating a $1 million win after matching the five white balls, though missing out on the Powerball number.
The jackpot has been on a steady climb since the last major win in September, when two lucky ticket holders from Missouri and Texas shared the second-largest Powerball jackpot in history. On September 6, they claimed an extraordinary $1.8 billion, making it one of the most significant lottery wins ever recorded in the United States.
This surge in Powerball’s prize comes after Mega Millions ended its own streak without a winner last Friday. A ticket sold in Newnan, Georgia, captured a near billion-dollar prize, putting an end to its lengthy dry spell.
