On Wednesday, I reported that President Trump was reportedly working on organizing a direct meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the Russo-Ukraine War being a primary discussion topic—specifically, negotiating an end to that conflict.
On Friday, President Trump announced on his Truth Social account that he would meet President Putin on Friday, August 15th. The unexpected twist? According to President Trump, the meeting is set to take place in Alaska.
That’s an interesting choice of venues.

Hosting a meeting with the Russian president on American soil carries historical significance, as Putin, well-versed in Russian history, will undoubtedly recognize the importance of meeting in what was once Russian America. However, it’s certain that Russia will not be reclaiming Alaska.
As for the meeting itself, on Wednesday, I wrote:
Circumstances might be evolving. On Wednesday, Fox News indicated that President Trump plans to engage in direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, followed by a potential three-way meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky. These meetings may occur as early as next week.
Details such as the location, agenda, or topics for the meeting have not been disclosed, except for President Trump’s announcement and the note, “Further details to follow.” It is likely that the Ukraine discussion will be a major agenda item, as President Trump has clearly expressed his intention to discuss this matter with the Russian president.
Russia has been growing more bellicose of late, while claiming aggrieved status and trying to paint NATO as the aggressor.
Here, again as I wrote on Wednesday, is the part that will be a challenge for even an accomplished deal-maker like President Trump:
As I have stated previously, the best outcome Ukraine might achieve is a return to the status quo ante 2022—where Russia retains Crimea, the Black Sea port at Sevastopol, and the predominantly Russian-speaking regions currently under its control. While it may not be the ideal or permanent solution, it could be the most feasible outcome for Ukraine at this time.
On the 15th, we’ll have some idea where each of them stands – and they’ll be standing right here in the Great Land. Stay tuned! We will be bringing you updates as soon as we know more.
