On Tuesday, Costco published a notification on its website, stating a recall for Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene bought between April 25 and August 26. The impacted bottles were distributed in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Costco advised that unopened bottles pose a shattering risk, even without being touched or used. Customers should envelop any unopened bottles in paper towels and place them in a plastic bag before discarding to mitigate the danger of broken glass.
The Associated Press reached out to Costco for comments on Tuesday, but no reports of injuries were confirmed, and the company did not disclose the number of bottles affected or the detection method of the flaw.
The Associated Press also left a message seeking comment with Ethica Wines, the Miami-based company that imported the affected wines from Italy.
Costco is notifying affected customers through mail. Bringing these notification letters to a local store will entitle them to a complete refund.
