Los Angeles County prosecutors do not believe 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez was pregnant when she was killed, the District Attorney’s Office told ABC News on Wednesday.
D4vd, the 21-year-old singer whose legal name is David Burke, is accused of fatally stabbing Rivas Hernandez inside his Hollywood Hills home last year before later dismembering her body.
According to prosecutors, Burke killed the teenager because she was prepared to disclose their sexual relationship, a revelation they say could have harmed his music career.
The statement from prosecutors appears to address speculation that Rivas Hernandez may have been killed because she was pregnant.
On Monday, a judge found there was sufficient evidence for Burke to stand trial in connection with Rivas Hernandez’s killing and dismemberment.
Los Angeles Judge Charlaine Olmedo ruled that testimony and evidence presented at a preliminary hearing established probable cause to proceed on charges of murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains.
Burke is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 31, with a trial potentially beginning as soon as 60 days after that. He has previously pleaded not guilty to all charges.
