Suspect beat LI mom of 3 in front of witnesses before leaving her to die: prosecutors

An ex-convict on parole has been accused of a brutal act that left a Long Island community in shock. According to prosecutors, Michael McHenry, aged 40, allegedly attacked and fatally injured his girlfriend, a mother of three, at a gas station in broad daylight as horrified witnesses watched.

The victim, 30-year-old Juliann Bachmann from Bellport, tragically lost her life following the violent incident at a Speedway gas station in Yaphank. The attack occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Despite efforts to save her, Bachmann was later pronounced dead at NYU Langone Hospital, police reports confirmed.

During McHenry’s arraignment, emotions ran high as Bachmann’s devastated father wept openly in the courtroom. Meanwhile, McHenry, facing a charge of second-degree murder, displayed a defiant demeanor, making faces and glaring throughout the proceedings.

Authorities revealed that bystanders at the scene quickly called 911 as the assault unfolded. However, McHenry fled before law enforcement arrived, leaving the community in dismay. The court has since ordered that McHenry be held without bail, given the severity of the charges against him.

Her boyfriend ws ordered held without bail.

Prosecutors said  bystanders dialed 911 during the vicious assault  but that the brute took off before police could get to the scene.

Suffolk County cops picked McHenry up around 8:15 p.m. and charged him with second-degree murder in the fatal assault.

Records show that McHenry was sentenced to two to four years in state prison in 2024 on a second-degree attempted assault conviction and paroled in March.
