Can We Get Rid of the Disgraceful American Federation of Teachers Yet?

Many people were acknowledging Independence Day on Friday.

A post by Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, sparked a lot of discussion. It wasn’t necessarily the content of her message acknowledging the holiday that grabbed attention, but rather the manner in which it was expressed. For someone leading a teachers’ union, there were some notably apparent errors.

Weingarten mentioned the sun “peaking” from behind the flag, when the correct term should be “peeking.” Additionally, she seemed unsure about spelling “4th” on the 4th of July, writing it as “4rth” instead. How awkward is that? She also used “thru” as a typical internet shorthand. Although it should technically be “through,” I might overlook that one. Moreover, there was no period.

She later modified the post but continued to have the issue with “peaking,” omitted a comma after July, and repeated the spelling error with “4rth.” She updated it a third time, yet the “4rth” error persisted along with a missing comma, indicating it wasn’t merely a case of typos or voice-to-text mishaps.

If she manages to change it again and finally get it correct, then the “4rth” time might be the charm, school choice activist Corey DeAngelis suggested.

She’s had a problem with “4rth” before, so it wasn’t a one-time mistake. And of course, she turned off the replies to cut people off from replying. I always wonder why liberals bother to do this when you can quote tweet them anyway. So they’re not truly cutting off comment; they showing they’re cowards.

It’s hard to believe that she was a teacher, much less the head of a teachers union, with mistakes like this. Is there any wonder that education is in such trouble when you have “leaders” who get such basic things wrong? It certainly says something about the nature of the leadership they’re picking.
