A tragic incident unfolded in the suburbs of Chicago as a woman stands accused of a heinous crime involving the carjacking and subsequent death of delivery driver Daniel Figueroa. The suspect made her court appearance on Wednesday, facing serious charges related to the event.

Authorities have detailed that the suspect, along with two accomplices, allegedly stole the victim’s minivan and, in a shocking turn of events, ran him over with his own vehicle. This brutal act has left a community in disbelief.

Montoya Perry, a 33-year-old resident of Maywood, was apprehended and charged with felony murder and vehicular hijacking. In what can only be described as a chilling moment, Perry was seen smiling broadly in her police mugshot, despite the grave accusations against her.

Perry’s criminal history is extensive, with eight prior felony convictions stretching back to 2010. At the time of this recent crime, she was already out on pre-trial release for another incident that occurred just two weeks earlier.

Her past offenses include aggravated robberies, carjackings, evading law enforcement, and providing false information to police. This pattern of behavior paints a disturbing picture as the legal proceedings continue to unfold.

She has a history of aggravated robberies, carjackings, fleeing from police and lying to police.

A judge ordered Perry detained, pending trial.

The victim’s family was very emotional in court Wednesday.

At one point, a fight broke out between members of Figueroa’s family and members of Perry’s family.

Figueroa’s longtime girlfriend Sandra Guerrero said he had just gotten off work from Amazon and planned to work extra hours for Uber Eats when the unthinkable happened.

She said he had just dropped off his final food order of the night at Loretto Hospital when three people allegedly tried to steal his minivan.

Investigators said Perry was behind the wheel when Figueroa tried to stop her from driving off. He ended up being dragged for half a block before being run over with his own vehicle.

Chicago police said the Downers Grove native died after being found around 2 a.m. that same morning lying unresponsive on West Flournoy Street on the city’s West Side.

Daniel’s death has left his family and friends devastated. His girlfriend shared her grief.

“It was important to be here just because Daniel didn’t deserve this,” Guerrero said. “Even though they have one person in custody, we still need justice to be served. He was a really devoted guy. He was loving, funny, all of it and he really didn’t deserve to go out like that.”

Investigators said they’ve recovered Figueroa’s minivan. His family said he cared deeply about people and loved to fish as a hobby.

They said they just want justice.

Meanwhile, investigators are still looking for the suspect’s two accomplices.

Perry is due back on court March 18.
