A man died Monday after falling from a roller coaster at a Georgia amusement park, leaving frightened riders stranded on the attraction until they could be safely evacuated.
The unidentified rider fell from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell on Monday afternoon and was killed, witnesses and park officials confirmed to 11Alive.
Witnesses said the man struck a roller coaster car three times during the fall. His fatal plunge was also captured in a souvenir photograph taken by one park visitor.
“He was in our pictures,” the witness said. “He fell and hit the car three different times.”
The incident brought the Goliath to a stop on an incline, while riders were removed from the coaster cars four at a time, according to WSBTV.
According to the Six Flags website, the Goliath stands 200 feet tall and reaches speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected,” a Six Flags Over Georgia spokesperson told The Post.
“The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time.”
Local officials had not immediately responded to The Post’s request for comment.
