RUSSIA has dismissed Donald Trump’s warning he is sending nuclear submarines closer to Russia as a “temper tantrum”.
While the Kremlin has yet to respond, the US President has been mocked by local media.
Former major general Leonid Ivlev mentioned that it doesn’t introduce a new threat since the US naval forces’ locations are already known, and submarine ranges can be researched online.
Another retired lieutenant general called it “meaningless blather”.
And a Russian security expert told one paper: “I’m sure Trump didn’t really give any orders”.
Trump stated he was dispatching submarines to “appropriate regions” following ex-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s comments on maintaining Soviet-era nuclear capabilities.
He said: “Words are very important and can often lead to unintended consequences.”
Trump has said that the US is “totally prepared” for a nuclear war following a slew of threats against America from a Kremlin comrade.
He remarked: “If the words of the former Russian president [Medvedev] provoke such a nervous response in the highly powerful US president, then Russia is justified and will continue on its current path.”
“Let him remember his favorite films about the “walking dead”, as well as how dangerous a “dead hand” that does not exist in nature can be.”
Medvedev might have been hinting at Moscow’s “Dead Hand” nuclear weapon system, intended to launch a full-scale retaliatory nuclear attack even if the Kremlin leadership is destroyed.
He also warned that Russia “isn’t Israel or even Iran.”
“Words carry significant weight and can often lead to unintended repercussions. I hope this situation does not result in such consequences. Thank you for your attention to this issue!”
