Seaplane carrying 8 passengers crashes into NYC's East River

A seaplane with eight people on board went down in New York City’s East River on Sunday, prompting a swift emergency response captured on video.

Video from the scene shows the aircraft floating in the river, one wing dipped beneath the surface, as rescue teams moved in to help those aboard.

Officials told The Post the aircraft made a hard landing in rough water and partially overturned shortly after noon.

FDNY crews rescued all eight people from the seaplane. Authorities said two passengers who suffered minor injuries were assessed by emergency medical personnel.

The incident happened near the Manhattan ferry and Skyport terminal by 23rd Street and FDR Drive.

Once everyone had been taken off the aircraft, responders righted it in the water and towed it back toward the docks.

At least five vessels were observed assisting with the operation, while another seaplane was seen in the area.

Police said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The incident comes less than a month after another seaplane was rescued from the East River after it was struck by a wave during takeoff and left it struggling in the water near the Throgs Neck Bridge.
