Sen. Eric Schmitt dazzles as Republicans clobber Democrats in Congressional Baseball Game for sixth straight year

In a decisive victory, Republican lawmakers triumphed over their Democratic opponents on Wednesday during the annual Congressional Baseball Game held in Washington, DC.

The GOP team secured an 11-2 win against the Democrats at Nationals Park, marking their sixth consecutive victory in this friendly political rivalry.

A standout moment of the evening was Sen. Eric Schmitt’s spectacular catch in the third inning. Sprinting near the left field line, Schmitt’s diving effort thwarted Rep. Johnny Olszewski (D-Md.) from securing an extra-base hit, though it left Schmitt with a bloody nose.

Schmitt, representing Missouri, also shone offensively, registering two hits and drawing two walks during the game.

After the game, Schmitt expressed his dedication on social media platform X, stating, “Left it all on the field,” and shared his honor at being named the game’s MVP.

Rep. Greg Steube of Florida, sporting a hat signed by President Trump and patriotic knee-high socks, delivered a strong performance from the mound. He pitched a complete game, allowing only two runs and striking out five Democratic batters over seven innings.

“REPUBLICANS WIN… AGAIN!” Steube celebrated on social media. “Six straight Congressional Baseball Game victories!“

“There’s nothing more American than baseball, and doing it during America’s 250th year made it even better!”

Defensive miscues plagued the Democrats throughout the game.

Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) made a nice stop on a groundball in the second inning but his errant throw got past the second baseman and right fielder, leading to two runs for the Republicans.

Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Pa.), the Democrat starting pitcher, struggled through three innings, giving up 10 runs and walking seven.

More than 32,000 tickets were sold for the game, which raised over $3.1 million for Washington, DC-area charities.

Republicans hold an overall edge over Democrats in the series with a 48-42 record.
