Top Mamdani official planned meeting with Iran's UN ambassador

Her planned Iran outreach has been scrapped.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s commissioner for international affairs arranged a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, sources confirmed to The Post.

The July 7 sit-down — first reported by City Journal — was to bring Commissioner Ana María Archila together with Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, but the meeting was ultimately called off, sources said.

According to sources, US State Department officials stepped in after learning Archila intended to meet with an Iranian government representative while tensions between Washington and Tehran remain active.

“She scheduled it without checking in with anybody,” one source said of the planned Tuesday meeting.

On Wednesday, President Trump said the temporary cease-fire was “over” as the two countries exchanged fresh strikes after Iranian attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.

The report said Mamdani was unaware of the planned meeting. Even so, the canceled diplomatic flap is likely to fuel criticism from opponents of the Israel-bashing Mamdani, who may see it as an “Aya-told-you-so” moment.

“I mean, read the room people,” another source said. “I’m sure the president is thrilled.”
