Chicago Loop stabbing: 4 charged after man stabbed to death outside Wabash Street restaurant, police say

In a tragic incident that has shaken the heart of Chicago, four individuals face charges following the fatal stabbing of a man in the Loop, according to statements released by the Chicago police on Tuesday. This grave event has cast a shadow over the usually bustling district, known for its vibrant energy and historic architecture.

Among those charged is 23-year-old Samuel Alvarado Moreno, who now faces a felony count related to criminal damage to government property. The case also involves three teenagers, underscoring the alarming involvement of youth in serious crimes. A 14-year-old boy is charged with felony murder, while another 14-year-old faces charges of armed robbery. Additionally, a 16-year-old has been charged with both first-degree murder and felony mob action, reflecting the severity of the accusations leveled against him.

This distressing event unfolded early Sunday morning, as police discovered the victim unresponsive in the 200-block of South Wabash Avenue at approximately 7:20 a.m. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, leaving the community grappling with the loss and the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with one count of felony murder, another 14-year-old boy was charged with one count of armed robbery and a 16-year-old boy was charged with one county of first degree murder and a felony county of mob action.

Chicago police said the man was found unresponsive in the Loop’s 200-block of South Wabash Avenue around 7:20 a.m. Sunday.

The victim, who suffered an apparent puncture wound to his body, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

ABC7 has been told the victim was a man experiencing homelessness.

Chicago police have not released a motive in the attack.
