A San Francisco man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly attacking a person with a knife in the city’s Chinatown, prosecutors announced on Monday.
The suspect, 37-year-old Jian Feng Huang, is accused of launching an unprovoked attack on March 5 near the intersection of Stockton and Sacramento streets. The incident left the victim severely wounded on the pavement in this bustling area, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the injured individual on the ground, suffering from a stab wound. Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing event, claiming Huang approached the victim from behind and drove a knife into his back before fleeing. This attack reportedly happened as the victim was waiting to cross the street.
Surveillance videos from nearby businesses appear to support these witness statements, capturing Huang as he allegedly assaulted the victim without any apparent confrontation or warning.
It has been indicated that Huang and the victim were previously acquainted.
Huang is now facing charges of attempted murder, with additional allegations that he used a deadly weapon and caused significant bodily harm.
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins moved quickly to keep the alleged knife-man off the streets, and announced Huang is behind bars and held without bail. At a press conference on Monday, Jenkins announced the victim is in the hospital âtrying to recover from very serious injuries.â
He remains in custody and is expected back in court for arraignment Tuesday morning at the Hall of Justice.
