A man tasked with picking up his friend from police custody in upstate New York found himself in a similar predicament when he arrived allegedly under the influence.
Antone Gilonna, 25, drove into a restricted area of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office parking lot, intending to collect his friend who had been arrested for DWI, according to a statement from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy on duty suspected that Gilonna, the supposed designated driver, might be intoxicated after a brief encounter in the parking lot.
After failing two field sobriety tests administered by the officers, Gilonna was arrested for DWI, leaving his friend without a ride home.
While the office did not disclose Gilonna’s precise blood alcohol content, he was charged with driving with a BAC of 0.08% or higher. In New York State, the legal limit is 0.04%.
In addition to the DWI charge, Gilonna faced charges for aggravated unlicensed operation and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
He was released that same day and ordered to appear in Glen Town Court at an unspecified date.
Gilonna previously had his New York State Driver’s license revoked for a prior DWI-related conviction and a chemical test refusal, according to the sheriff’s office.
Gilonna isn’t the first idiotic DWI arrest.
On Halloween, an 18-year-old partier was arrested on a DUI charge while dressed as a prison inmate. The Florida police department that nabbed him teased that he “was already dressed for arrest.”
Another Florida man was arrested in July 2025 for plowing his lawnmower down a busy highway while he was under the influence.
