HOME Shopping Network shoppers have been warned after a smartwatch started catching fire, causing burns to users’ hands.

The recall affects the Altafit af28 smartwatch, which was sold on HSN from March to May this year at a discounted price.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall following 39 incidents of the watch overheating, melting, and even catching fire while charging.

At least six customers suffered burns to their hands, and some experienced property damage due to the fires.

The watch’s wireless charging pad is to blame for the fire hazards.

The smartwatches were imported into the US by Deale International LLC, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The watch featured a 1.68-inch color touchscreen and came with two bands, one bejeweled and one mesh.

Promotional videos touted its health tracking, including oxygen level monitoring, sleep tracking, heart rate, and multiple sports modes.

The device was also promoted as water resistant with an IP67 rating, capable of receiving phone calls, texts, and app notifications.

However, despite these features, the watch’s wireless charger proved dangerously faulty.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission urged users to immediately unplug the charging pad and stop charging the watch.

Consumers are instructed to contact Deale International to arrange a free replacement.

As part of the recall process, customers must cut the power cable of the unplugged charging pad and send a photo of it to altafitrecall@thedeale.com.

About 2,900 units were sold online during the three-month sales window on HSN.

The smartwatch was sold for around $50, half its original price.

The recall notice carried the number 25-428.

Product Recall Warning

  • Product: $50 on-sale electronic item sold by Home Shopping Network
  • Hazard: Risk of catching fire, causing burns to users’ hands
  • Incidents: At least one reported case of the product igniting during use
  • Sales Period: Sold over a span of more than three months
  • Action: Consumers are urged to stop using the item immediately
  • Remedy: Contact Home Shopping Network for a refund or replacement
  • Contact: HSN customer service via website or hotline for recall processing

Reports indicate that the fires usually occurred while the watch was charging, with the charger itself overheating.

No fatalities have been reported.

The safety commission continues to monitor reports linked to wearable devices.

Earlier in August, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission initiated a nationwide recall for the KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchen, which impacts approximately 192,000 units.

The move came after the toy was linked to the death of a 23-month-old boy who became trapped and was unable to free himself.

Officials warn the product poses a severe risk of asphyxiation and strangulation for young children.
