On Wednesday morning, Mike Johnson, the Republican Speaker of the House from Louisiana’s 4th District, addressed the media regarding Operation Epic Fury and the current partial government shutdown. True to his style, Speaker Johnson was direct and unflinching in his commentary.
Let’s dive into the key points. Regarding the operation, the Speaker emphasized that it represents a robust foreign policy approach—essentially advocating for peace through strength.
In his own words, the Speaker stated:
Johnson took a moment to critique the Obama administration while summarizing the mission’s objective: to dismantle Iran’s ability to act as the leading global supporter of Islamic terrorism. However, some of his remarks were also directed at issues closer to the domestic front.
It is the OPPOSITE.
Peace is not secured through appeasement … It is through strength.

The Speaker said:
There is a misconception that Operation Epic Fury is in any way a diversion from Republican demands for peace. It’s the opposite. Peace is not secured through appeasement. And it’s certainly not secured by airdropping off billions of dollars in terrorist regimes, which is what previous Democrat administrations have done. Peace is secured through strength. That is the principle that our party has stood for my entire life. And on principle before that, articulated the idea of peace through strength. That’s what this administration is demonstrating. And that is why America is the last great superpower on the planet. And all freedom-loving people around the world are grateful to God for that.
Aside from the very pointed (and well-deserved) shot at the Obama administration, this is a cogent summary of the intent behind destroying Iran’s capacity to continue as the world’s foremost state sponsor of Islamic terrorism. But the Speaker also made some statements that hit rather closer to home.
