Palmdale Street shooting on Jacksonville's Northwest side leaves man dead

A gunman shot a man in Downtown after asking for money, leaving the victim wounded in the hand and chest, JSO said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was shot in Downtown by an individual who came up to his vehicle and requested money on Tuesday, as per the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police were called to North Main Street at 3:02 p.m. Tuesday after reports of shots fired, but they did not find anyone there nor any crime scene.

Not long after, a man with gunshot injuries to his hand and chest was reported at a nearby hospital. The victim was identified as being in his late 20s.

He recounted to police that a man had approached his car and asked for money. According to JSO, he rolled down the window to give some money, but the man demanded more, subsequently drawing a revolver and firing at least three times.

The man was struck and wounded in the hand and chest. He drove himself to the hospital.

JSO says the shooter may have been a panhandler.
