President Trump is experiencing a rise in disapproval ratings among Americans as he approaches seven months into his second term, according to a survey released on Friday.

The Economist/YouGov poll reveals that 40% of Americans either “strongly or somewhat” approve of Trump’s performance as president. On the other hand, 56% expressed “strong or somewhat” disapproval. Approximately 4% of those surveyed were uncertain about their stance.

Most Democratic voters disapprove of Trump, while most Republicans approve of his handling of the presidency.

The group with the most favorable view of Trump consists of those aged 65 and older, with nearly 48% indicating they “strongly or somewhat” support his presidency. In contrast, the lowest approval rating, at 29%, was noted among those aged 18 to 29.

A quarter of respondents, 23%, expressed “strong approval” for Trump’s presidency, whereas 47% “strongly disapproved,” according to the poll. In comparison, during former President Biden’s term, 56% of adults either strongly approved or disapproved, with 39% expressing slightly more moderate opinions.

The survey showed that nearly all “very liberal” Americans, 95%, strongly disapprove of Trump, whereas 72% of those who identify as “very conservative” strongly approve of him.

Another survey by Reuters/Ipsos earlier this month indicated that 40% supported Trump’s presidential performance, a decrease of 7 points from the onset of his second term.

In the average of surveys from Decision Desk HQ, the president currently has a 45.6 % approval rating and a 51.1% disapproval rating.

A Pew Research Center poll, released in mid-August, found that Trump’s current job approval rating is at 38%.

The Economist/YouGov poll was conducted from August 15-18 among 1,568 U.S. adults. The margin of error was around 3.5 percentage points.
