A 53-year-old man named Johnny McNutt has been taken into custody following an incident where he allegedly shot another individual in the head, as reported by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
FORT WHITE, Fla. — On Christmas Day, law enforcement officers responded to an emergency call that led to the arrest of McNutt and the hospitalization of a victim, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputies were dispatched to a residence on Cullen Avenue, where they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
While the sheriff’s office has not yet disclosed the victim’s identity or age, they have confirmed he is male. As of the latest update on Friday afternoon, the victim remains in critical condition at the hospital.
After being questioned by authorities, Johnny McNutt confessed to shooting the victim and was subsequently arrested.
The preliminary investigation by the sheriff’s office indicates that earlier in the day, McNutt and the victim were involved in a physical altercation. Following the confrontation, McNutt reportedly retrieved a firearm and approached the victim, who was seated in a chair, and fired a single shot to the head without warning.
McNutt is charged with attempted second-degree murder.
