T-Mobile Restores Service After Widespread U.S. Outage Reports

Thousands of T-Mobile users in major U.S. cities reported problems Monday with wireless service, including texting, mobile internet and streaming, according to outage tracker Downdetector.

WASHINGTON — T-Mobile said late Monday that service had been fully restored after customers spent much of the evening reporting widespread disruptions to their cellphone connections on social media.

Downdetector showed outage reports beginning around 4:30 p.m. ET and climbing to more than 62,000 by 5 p.m. ET. The number of reports fell to just under 22,000 by 6 p.m. ET and dropped to a little over 1,000 by 11 p.m. ET.

The disruption reportedly affected a range of mobile services, including text messaging, internet access, T-Mobile apps, email, TV streaming and other connected features.

“We have fully restored service for all customers and sincerely apologize for the difficulties to those who experienced network impacts today,” T-Mobile said on X around 11:30 p.m. ET. The company said it understands that customers depend on its network “to stay connected to what matters most” and thanked them for their patience while it worked to resolve the issue.

Earlier Monday evening, T-Mobile responded to customers on X by saying it was investigating the service problems being reported.

“Our teams are actively working the reports of technical challenges impacting some customers. Any service impacts are in the process of being resolved and are our highest priority,” T-Mobile said in a statement posted to social media. “We know how critical it is to stay connected, and every available resource is focused on resolving this as quickly as possible.”

Downdetector’s outage map shows the outage primarily affected users on the East Coast with the largest amount of reports coming from New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis and Los Angeles.

It’s unclear what prompted the outage.
