In a groundbreaking move, pop sensation Taylor Swift might soon make history by becoming the first individual to transition from the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Starlight Award to full membership.

LOS ANGELES — Taylor Swift, the pop icon, has earned her very first nomination for the Songwriters Hall of Fame in the year she became eligible. This nomination paves the way for her to potentially be the first to progress from the prestigious Starlight Award to full-fledged membership.

Swift became eligible for this accolade two decades after the release of her debut single “Tim McGraw” in June 2006, thereby meeting the criteria for consideration for the 2026 induction ceremony.

Back in 2010, Swift was honored with the Hal David Starlight Award by the Songwriters Hall of Fame, highlighting her as a promising songwriter. Should she be selected, she would make history as the first person to evolve from receiving the Starlight Award, an accolade established in 2004, to gaining full membership status.

The nominees for the 2026 induction are a diverse group, featuring artists from genres like pop, hip-hop, folk, and rock. The list includes Kenny Loggins, LL Cool J, Pink, Sarah McLachlan, and David Byrne of Talking Heads. Additionally, it features Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine, and Jane M. Wiedlin from The Go-Go’s, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings from The Guess Who, and Kiss members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

The performer-songwriter category also includes Richard Carpenter of The Carpenters, Harry Wayne Casey of KC and the Sunshine Band, and Boz Scaggs.

In the non-performing songwriter category, nominees include disco songwriter Pete Bellotte, Swedish pop producer Andreas Carlsson, Steve Kipner, longtime Madonna collaborator Patrick Leonard and the duo Terry Britten and Graham Lyle.

Eligible voting members have until midnight Eastern on Dec. 4 to submit ballots with their choices of up to three nominees from each category. The top three vote-getters in each of the two categories will be inducted.

The 2026 inductees will be announced early next year and celebrated at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction & Awards Gala in New York City.

Established in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s previous inductees include Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Brian Wilson, Bruce Springsteen, Carole King, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Lionel Richie and Phil Collins. The 2025 class included George Clinton, The Doobie Brothers, Ashley Gorley, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, The Beach Boys’ Mike Love and Tony Macaulay.
