Keyon Byrd turned himself in on Friday — the same day the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says it received a warrant for his arrest.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 14-year-old is facing a murder charge after a fatal shooting on Jacksonville’s Westside earlier this week, police say.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a shooting incident reported at an apartment complex on LaBelle Street. Upon arrival, authorities discovered 18-year-old Marlon Lane suffering from several gunshot wounds.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) said Lane was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Keyon Byrd turned himself in on Friday — the same day JSO says it received a warrant for his arrest.

The sheriff’s office wrote in a statement:

“Our detectives and officers are committed to holding individuals accountable for violent actions, regardless of their age. We will persist in collaborating with the State Attorney’s Office to deliver justice for Lane’s family and friends.

We can’t stress this enough: parents and family members, please get involved in your children’s lives.”
