Two teenagers from Pennsylvania are facing legal action after prosecutors revealed they engaged in perilous stunts encouraged by TikTok, which sadly led to the death of one friend and ongoing injuries for another.

Both incidents, although separate and involving distinct stunts, took place in Northampton County, located 85 miles from New York City and 80 miles from Philadelphia.

In one unfortunate scenario, a 17-year-old lost his life on June 1 while participating in a risky activity involving a folding table secured to a friend’s car. Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta reported that the friend’s reckless speeding resulted in the rider on the table being forcibly thrown into another parked car, leading to his tragic demise, according to an official statement from Baratta’s office.

Baratta noted that neither of the young drivers involved has a history of criminal behavior, and the victims’ families are not demanding jail time. Hence, his office plans to forgo incarceration if the parties accept plea deals.

He said the families want to use the cases in the hope that other teens will make better decisions.

The families are hopeful these charges will lead to accountability and serve as a warning to dissuade other young individuals from engaging in risky social media challenges that could harm others, as expressed in his statement.

The dangerous stunts are not just limited to Pennsylvania. A similar car surfing stunt in Utah left a 15-year-old girl with a severe brain injury last year.
