'It was scary': Neighbor’s doorbell camera captures gunfire in Northside attempted home invasion

Terrifying Doorbell Camera Footage: Northside Home Invasion Attempt Caught on Tape

In the video, three individuals are seen approaching a residence before a barrage of gunfire erupts, leading two of them to flee the scene.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman from Jacksonville expresses her gratitude for being unharmed after her home surveillance system recorded the gunfire during what authorities are terming an attempted break-in on the city’s Northside.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Thursday along Sixth Avenue in the Riverview neighborhood.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reports that three masked individuals, armed with weapons, broke into a man’s residence, firing shots in what they believe was an attempted robbery.

In response, the homeowner returned fire, injuring one of the intruders, according to police.

Both the homeowner and the injured suspect were transported to the hospital for treatment. The remaining two suspects fled the area and are still at large.

Video shared with First Coast News by a neighbor captured the moments before and after the shooting. In the clip, three men can be seen approaching a home before dozens of gunshots ring out.

“That was too close,” the neighbor said. “That was real close. The gunshots woke me up out of my sleep.”

She told First Coast News she had left her front door unlocked just moments before the gunfire started.

“At that time my door was unlocked. They could’ve came in, but they didn’t. Thank God for that,” she said.

The neighbor says the close call left her shaken, calling it a reminder that “crime can happen anywhere.”

“It was just an eye opener,” she said. “These kids these days, they have no regard for life.”

She also shared a message for the suspects still on the run.

“They need some guidance. They need help. They need somebody to show them the right way. That’s not the way to go.”

JSO believes the incident was isolated. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
