A DELTA flight has been diverted after a passenger reportedly brought a banned item onto the plane that caused a fire.

Fire crews stormed the cabin after passengers screamed as smoke clouded their seats while they were zooming through the skies.

Delta has confirmed that flight 1334, a Boeing 757 en route from Atlanta, Georgia, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Monday, was rerouted due to a battery fire incident.

“The flight attendants acted promptly to put out a possibly burning personal battery from a passenger as the pilots adhered to procedures to safely reroute the flight,” a spokesperson mentioned to USA Today.

The plane was abruptly landed at Southwest Florida International Airport where first responders were waiting to make sure everyone was safe.

One passenger filmed a now-viral video capturing the moment firefighters in full suits walked down the aisles as flyers remained in their seats.

“We have to wait for the fire department to clear the plane,” the TikToker said in the post.

She explained that she was asleep when she was woken up by people screaming “fire fire fire.”

“I turned around, it’s pure smoke,” she said.

“They had to use fire extinguishers.”

Although Delta has not provided specific information on the cause, a pilot was overheard suggesting that the passenger may have carried a lithium battery, according to radio transmissions reported by CNN.
