Tesla recalls some Cybertrucks for wheel issue and more than 200,000 other cars for camera failure

Tesla has initiated a recall for 173 of its Cybertruck vehicles due to a potential safety issue. The defect involves cracking in the rotor, which could lead to the wheel stud detaching from the wheel hub, thereby increasing the likelihood of accidents and injuries.

This recall targets Cybertrucks from the 2024 to 2026 model years, specifically those equipped with 18-inch steel wheels. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), stress from rough terrain and sharp turns can exacerbate the strain on the stud hole within the wheel rotor. This can result in the formation of cracks, and with prolonged use, the wheel stud may eventually disengage from the hub.

The separation of the wheel stud is a serious concern as it can compromise the vehicle’s control, heightening the risk of crashes.

To address this issue, Tesla will offer complimentary replacements for the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts on all affected vehicles. These replacements will utilize more robust materials to ensure safety.

The recall has been assigned the manufacturer’s reference number SB-26-33-003. Vehicle owners seeking more information can reach Tesla’s customer service at 1-877-798-3752.

In addition, Tesla is recalling over 200,000 of its Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 electric cars due to a software glitch that temporarily disables the rearview camera.

Loss of the rearview camera image may affect the driver’s view, increasing the risk of a crash.

Tesla’s number for this recall is SB-26-00-016.

Tesla is not aware of any accidents, fatalities or injuries related to either of the problems in the above recalls.
