Owner of Texas bar attacked during mass shooting releases statement

The proprietor of Buford’s bar in Downtown Austin has expressed his heartfelt message to those affected by the recent incident.

AUSTIN, Texas — Following the tragic event that occurred early Sunday, the owner of a Texas bar has issued a statement to the public.

Bob Woody, the owner of Buford’s bar located in Downtown Austin, extended his sympathies to the victims and their families. He also commended law enforcement for their swift reaction to the shooting.

The complete statement is as follows:

“I want to extend my deepest condolences to all the families impacted by this tragedy. Words cannot convey the sorrow we feel, nor can we fully comprehend the pain these individuals are enduring.

To the families of the victims, my thoughts and prayers are with you.”

Thank you to Mayor Watson and Chief Davis for their leadership, and for keeping everyone informed so quickly.

To the first responders: You saved lives. You arrived in under a minute and placed yourselves at risk to stop the terrorist. Your swift and courageous actions saved so many.

This city is proud of the selfless actions by all first responders.

I have been in communication with APD, FBI, and TABC, all have been helpful and very supportive.

Wednesday, I will have a debriefing with my staff. The FBI will provide grief counseling services for them. I’m very thankful for this.

Once again, my heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy.”

Two victims were killed during the shooting and 14 were injured.

The suspect was shot and killed by Austin police. The gunman was not on law enforcement’s radar before the attack, federal and city authorities said at a press conference on Monday. Both the FBI and police in Austin said that it’s too soon to identify the motive behind the mass shooting early Sunday.
