Texas mom charged with manslaughter after allegedly driving 82 mph in crash that killed 2 recent college grads

A 22-year-old Texas mother accused of driving more than twice the posted speed limit with her two young children in the vehicle is facing manslaughter charges after a crash killed a recently graduated college couple.

Aldrea Rogers, 22, was arrested and charged with two counts of manslaughter in the deaths of Julian Harris and Madison Duren, according to Dallas County jail records reviewed by News Outlet.

Rogers was allegedly traveling 82 mph in a 35 mph zone when her vehicle collided with the couple’s car, FOX 4 Dallas reported, citing a recently released arrest affidavit.

Harris, 23, and Duren, 22, had recently graduated from Southern Methodist University. The two shared a strong interest in theater.

Harris was pronounced dead at the scene. Duren was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Rogers’ two children were also riding in her vehicle at the time of the collision. Authorities said all three survived.

Investigators said Harris was behind the wheel of a Toyota Prius, with Duren in the passenger seat, when he tried to turn left onto a major roadway.

The Prius was hit by a Hyundai Elantra driven by Rogers, who investigators said was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash.

Rogers was booked into the Dallas County Jail on Oct. 16. Her bond was set at $250,000 on each manslaughter count, according to jail records.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Rogers’ total bond was listed at $500,000.

After graduating from SMU, Harris and Duren remained active in Dallas’ theater community, where they continued to pursue their shared love of acting.

The couple’s friends, Eli Barron and Emmet Overcarsh, told FOX 4 Dallas that Harris and Duren were curious, enthusiastic people who enjoyed learning and building connections with others.

Overcarsh said he was particularly stunned that Rogers, who was the same age as Harris and Duren, allegedly had her two young children in the vehicle during the fatal crash.

The couple had been leaving their apartment when the crash happened.

Friends said the deaths have been difficult to comprehend, particularly because Rogers was the same age as the victims and allegedly had her two young children in the car.

A memorial service for Harris and Duren is scheduled for Oct. 31 at Southern Methodist University.
