On Thursday, an armed woman seated herself in a lawn chair amid a busy Texas highway, initiating a multi-hour standoff with law enforcement. This led to halted traffic until her eventual surrender.
Deputies from Harris County Constable Precinct 4 were dispatched Thursday afternoon following a report of an armed woman involved in a collision with an 18-wheeler on I-45 South in Spring, Texas. Both the woman and the truck driver emerged unscathed from the crash.
Post-collision, the woman got out of her car, brought out a chair, and sat in the center of the highway. According to the constable’s office, she was armed with a handgun and was not complying with requests to disarm.

Crisis Intervention Response Team members responded to the scene, as did the woman’s daughter. (Harris County Constable Precinct 4)
“That was something that kept her here with us from doing something foolish. Once she realized her daughter was here, she was safe, she was going to be allowed to see her again, it got better at that point,” the sheriff said.
The woman eventually surrendered and was taken into custody before being transported to a hospital for evaluation.
