The Worst News Outlet of the Week - A Look at the Latest Deliveries From the Dysfunctional Media

As it turned out in the end, it was a close battle for bottom honors, as several news outlets had distinctly horrid reporting. It was challenging to compile and then determine the true “winner” for incompetence, so let’s start delving into the media swamps and see who took top (bottom) honors this week.

     THE CONTENDERS

MSNBC – Following the Boulder firebomb attack, former Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill (D) seized the opportunity to shift the focus to…gun control??? David French argued that PBS and NPR are essential as they are the only news available for the hicks living in the boondocks. The network ran a report enthusiastically backing Democrats recruiting men in gyms, seemingly forgetting their previous claims that those who work out are white supremacists. In May, Jen Psaki saw a 50 percent decrease in viewership during her timeslot. It was announced that the newly spun-off network has to relocate out of NBC News headquarters.

Axios – The outlet expressed disgust that the FBI requested tips on hospitals illegally performing gender alterations on minors during Pride Month. Alex Thompson had former Biden officials criticizing Karine Jean-Pierre, something they could not do while she was still employed. He also revealed himself by stating that anyone who lies loses off-the-record status with him — while his new book is replete with anonymous sources admitting they lied during the Biden years. Andrew Solender reported the SCOOP that Democrats wanted to park a taco truck outside RNC headquarters.

Washington Post – The paper was among those needing to sheepishly retract its coverage of the Gaza incident. With the start of Pride Month, they both highlighted the coming World Pride Fest held in D.C. while suggesting there were fears about Trump, and still calling groups “marginalized” (who have days commemorating them over more than half of the calendar year). There was the report on the sharp drop in fentanyl coming across the border, while straining to call it a mystery, to avoid crediting Trump’s security success at the border.

CNN A panel declared that the FBI was “juvenile” for declaring the foreigner who targeted Jews in Colorado a terrorist. Extremism expert Donie O’Sullivan went to Colorado but was covering the My Pillow Trial.  Correspondent Alex Marquardt, who was behind the report that caused CNN to be sued for defamation, has been let go. Cristiane Amanpour said traveling to the US was like going into North Korea in order to give a speech at Harvard. The network that never shuts up about January 6 dared to say the Trump administration investigating Biden was wrong to be looking back at details.

USA Today – The paper was loudly mocked for daring to deliver a report fretting that the daughter of the Colorado firebomb attacker would lose her college acceptance and be deported. In another stunted report, it tried to make it a good news story that Abrego Garcia was being returned to the US, but avoided detailing that he was coming to face new charges of human trafficking. And in yet another roundly ridiculed piece, the paper raved that gymnast Simone Biles was fighting with Riley Gaines in support of trans men in female sports.

     THE WINNER

THE BBC

The news outlet with a lengthy history of fraudulent reports out of Palestine regarding the Israel-Hamas war was remarkable in the manner in which it showed repeated examples of more flawed reporting.

Despite the fact that it should be to the point of verifying things from the region fully, it instead pushed out a series of error-filled dispatches, all based on Hamas-fed information.

It delivered reports of a constantly shifting quality, with details frequently changing, but all the while blaming Israel for the attacks.

It eventually had to walk back its claims. Sort of. Even as it allowed that there were questions regarding the shooting, it never would mention Hamas as possibly being behind the attack – after energetically blaming Israel in initial reports.

After being called out by Karoline Leavitt in the White House for its reporting, the BBC then issued a “fact-check” on her, refuting her claims. Yet that attempt confirmed her comments, as they tried to call her incorrect but then declared they had reported details given by Hamas.

Even when the outlet tried to say they had confirmation from the Red Cross, that report only had the organization confirming the deaths and injuries; it said nothing of Israel being the responsible party.
