Tim Walz, Democrats' 2024 VP candidate, won't run for a third term as Minnesota governor amid ongoing fraud investigations

Minnesota’s political landscape is set for a change as Governor Tim Walz, who is also the Democrats’ candidate for vice president in 2024, has announced he will not pursue a third term. This decision comes just months after he had initially launched his reelection campaign.

In a statement released on Monday, Walz expressed confidence in his potential to secure another term. However, he revealed that the challenges facing the state over the past year have led him to conclude that he cannot fully commit to another political campaign.

At 61, Walz is stepping back from his gubernatorial aspirations amidst ongoing investigations into fraud within Minnesota’s child care programs—a situation that has been politically charged by President Donald Trump.

“The Trump administration, along with allies in Washington and St. Paul, aims to make our state less welcoming,” Walz stated, referencing the federal withholding of funds. “They seek to divide us by sowing distrust among neighbors, threatening the very essence that makes Minnesota a great place for families.”
