1 dead, 1 in custody after Alabama shooting

SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WRBL) — A tragic shooting incident in Sawyer’s Trailer Park on Lee Road 246 has resulted in the death of one individual, confirmed Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to the mobile home park following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered 34-year-old Anthony Levi Hodge from Smiths Station with a gunshot wound. Sadly, Hodge was declared dead at 7:35 p.m. CT on Sunday at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital, as stated by Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton.

To determine the exact cause of death, the Lee County Coroner’s Office will send Hodge’s remains to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.

In a related development, deputies identified a second location near Terry’s Grocery shortly after the shooting. A significant law enforcement presence was observed around a white pickup truck in the grocery store’s parking lot, leading to the peaceful detention of a person of interest.

Authorities suspect a connection between the two locations and have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. They urge anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651.
