In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old high school freshman from Missouri lost his life to a stray bullet while engaging in an ordinary pastime—playing video games at home. The fatal event occurred on October 8, as reported by authorities and various news outlets.

D’Uwan Morgan was inside his residence on Hobkirk Drive in St. Louis when a bullet, intended for another target, struck him around 6:10 p.m. The bullet was a consequence of a gunfight that erupted among a group of teenagers in the nearby vicinity, according to WCNC.

The St. Louis Police Department confirmed that the young boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene. At the time of the shooting, D’Uwan was in his bedroom, a place that should have been safe, with his mother and two brothers present in the house.

Family members expressed their grief, highlighting the senselessness of the loss. “He was minding his business, doing nothing,” a relative shared with the media. “Just sitting in his room. And now he’s gone.”

Witnesses from the neighborhood described seeing several masked teenagers fleeing the scene, leaping over fences and disappearing between houses as the sounds of gunfire echoed through the area. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning.

Neighbors told the outlet that they witnessed several teens, some wearing masks, hopping fences and disappearing between houses when the shots rang out.

Morgan, who graduated eighth grade just five months ago, loved the outdoors and fishing, his family recalled.

“He was a beautiful, nice kid,” his aunt, Erica Davis, told the publication.

“He had a bright future ahead of him.”

His heartbroken mother has been struggling to put her life back together after her son’s shocking death, she added.

“She hasn’t been eating. She hasn’t been sleeping. She’s completely broken,” Davis said of Morgan’s mother. “This is a horrible nightmare.”

No arrests have been made yet in the shooting, and the investigation is still ongoing, police confirmed to several outlets.

Morgan’s family has been troubled by the lack of answers from authorities as the investigation progresses.

“My family will never be the same,” Davis said. “We want justice for my nephew. He didn’t deserve to lose his life like this.”
