Horrific murder-suicide sees boxer, 25, gunned down by girlfriend's jilted ex-husband

In a tragic turn of events, a promising young boxer from California was killed in what authorities are describing as a suspected murder-suicide, involving the ex-husband of his girlfriend. The incident left the community in shock and mourning.

According to police reports, the violent episode occurred early Sunday morning, around 4 a.m., at a residence located on the 1500 block of University Avenue in Hanford. Witnesses alerted the authorities after overhearing a heated argument between a man and a woman inside the home.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers reported hearing a gunshot, after which Vincent Diaz, the alleged perpetrator, turned the firearm on himself, resulting in his death from a self-inflicted wound.

After ensuring the woman’s safety, officers conducted a thorough search of the premises. During this sweep, they discovered Adrian Valdovinos, a local boxing talent, lifeless in a bedroom, suffering from gunshot injuries.

Investigations revealed that Diaz, who had been married to the woman living at the residence, forcibly entered the home, leading to the tragic confrontation. The loss of Valdovinos has left a deep void in the boxing community and beyond.

Investigators say Diaz was the ex-husband of the woman living at the home and had forced his way inside.

Police believe he shot Valdovinos — the woman’s current boyfriend — before taking his own life. “This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” the department said.

The killing has devastated loved ones of Valdovinos, who was described by friends and family as a rising boxer with a bright future.

Known as “Angelo” to those close to him, he was remembered as a dedicated athlete with strong ties to the community. In the aftermath, grief and anger have surfaced online.

A woman who identified herself as Diaz’s cousin wrote in a social media post that “two families lost” in the tragedy, expressing heartbreak over the deaths.

“If u knew my Cuzn Vincent Diaz u would know he was a loving caring father that would always have his girls and he would never leave them. So none of this makes sense,” the woman said.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
