Shooting at lake near Oklahoma City leaves at least 12 injured, police and hospital officials say

Edmond, Oklahoma — A peaceful evening turned into chaos Sunday night when a shooting erupted at a lakeside party near Oklahoma City, leaving at least 12 people wounded and requiring hospital treatment, as confirmed by authorities and medical personnel.According to Emily Ward, spokesperson for the Edmond Police Department, officers were alerted around 9 p.m. to gunfire at a social gathering by Arcadia Lake, predominantly attended by young individuals. As of late Sunday, no suspects had been apprehended.

“This situation is incredibly alarming for everyone involved, and we are fully committed to identifying those responsible,” Ward expressed. “We are canvassing the metro area, speaking with victims and witnesses to gather more information.”

Ward further detailed that while 10 individuals were transported via ambulance to local hospitals, others managed to seek medical attention on their own. The conditions of those injured vary, she noted.

A spokesperson for the Integris Health system reported that nine of the injured were being treated at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, while three others were at Integris Health Edmond Hospital. As of late Sunday evening, medical staff were still evaluating the patients’ conditions.

Nine people were at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City and three were at Integris Health Edmond Hospital, according to a hospital system spokesperson. The spokesperson said the patients were all still being assessed late Sunday night.

While police didn’t provide details about the party, a flyer seen on social media after the shooting suggested that an event called Sunday Funday had been scheduled near the lake Sunday evening.

CBS Oklahoma City affiliate KWTV reports that police set up a reunification center for families at a local Walmart.

Arcadia Lake, about 13 miles north of Oklahoma City, is an artificial reservoir used for flood control that is also a popular recreational spot that offers fishing, boating, picnicking and camping. It’s located in Edmond, an Oklahoma City suburb with about 100,000 residents.

Forty years ago, Edmond was the site of one of the deadliest workplace shootings in U.S. history. On Aug. 20, 1986, postal worker Patrick Sherrill shot 20 co-workers, killing 14 of them. He then killed himself.
