Tragedy struck a high school gathering in Pinson, Alabama, when a young cheerleader, Kimber Mills, lost her life following a shooting incident at a party. The unfortunate event unfolded early Sunday morning in a secluded area known locally as The Pit.
The Jefferson County Sheriffâs Office reports that the suspect, 27-year-old Steven Tyler Whitehead, arrived at the scene around 12:24 a.m. and discharged his firearm multiple times after an argument escalated into violence. The shooting occurred amidst a bonfire gathering, as detailed by WVTM.
Authorities have charged Whitehead with three counts of attempted murder, and he is currently detained on a $180,000 bond.
In an interview with AL.com, Ashley Mills, Kimberâs sister, recounted that Whitehead was a stranger to the attendees. Kimber, who was just 18 and had aspirations to attend the University of Alabama in 2026, became an unintended victim of the chaos. âKimber was caught in the crossfire,â her sister Ashley lamented.
