WASHINGTON — In a shocking incident, fresh details have surfaced regarding the deaths of renowned actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner. The couple was found lifeless in what authorities suspect to be a homicide.

The bodies of the esteemed filmmaker and his spouse were located late Sunday in their Southern California abode. Reports from law enforcement indicate that both individuals suffered fatal stab wounds.

Following the grim discovery, authorities apprehended the couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, mere hours after the incident. The Los Angeles Police Department has since confirmed Nick’s arrest in connection to the tragic stabbing of his parents. Prosecutors are expected to deliberate over formal charges on Tuesday, with Nick currently detained without bail.

So far, police have not revealed any potential motives behind the killings.

NBC News and People reported Monday afternoon that Nick and his parents had attended Conan O’Brien’s party on Saturday.

According to the sources, Nick was “disruptive” and made guests uncomfortable with his behavior. NBC News reported that Rob and Michelle had been upset about their son’s behavior and expressed worries about his health. ABC News reported that Rob and Nick had got into an argument at the holiday party. 

Rob and Nick Reiner had explored their difficult relationship and Nick Reiner’s struggles with drugs in a semi-autobiographical 2016 film, “ Being Charlie.” Nick Reiner has spoken publicly of his struggles with addiction. By 18, he had cycled in and out of treatment facilities with bouts of homelessness and relapses in between.

ABC News reported Monday afternoon that Nick was arrested near the University of Southern California hours after his parents’ bodies were found. 

Tracy Reiner, who was welcomed by Rob via adoption during his marriage to the late Penny Marshall, broke her silence about the “Stand by Me” director’s death.  

“I came from the greatest family ever,” Tracy told NBC News. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”

She also told NBC News that she had seen her dad a day prior at a family gathering. 

Reiner is long one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood, and his work includes some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s and ’90s, including “This is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride.”

His role as Meathead in the 1970s TV classic “All in the Family” alongside Carol O’Connor’s Archie Bunker catapulted him to fame.

In recent years, he had a role on “New Girl” playing Bob Day, the father of main character Jess Day, played by Zooey Deschanel.

The son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner married photographer Michele Singer Reiner in 1989. The two met while he was directing “When Harry Met Sally.” They had three children together: Nick, Jake and Romy.

Michele Singer Reiner was a producer for “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” “God & Country,” “Albert Brooks: Defending My Life” and “Shock and Awe,” according to IMDB. Earlier in her career, she photographed the cover image of President Donald Trump’s 1987 bestseller “The Art of the Deal.”
