In a tragic incident that unfolded on Chicago’s North Side, a woman was discovered shot to death in her home on Friday morning. The Chicago police have confirmed they are treating the case as a homicide, though details remain sparse at this early stage.

Amidst the unfolding investigation, Cook County Crimestoppers have stepped forward with a $10,000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrator. The discovery of the victim occurred during a well-being check prompted by a high-ranking city official, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

The 36-year-old woman was found lifeless in a residence situated in the 6900-block of North Bell Avenue, within the West Rogers Park neighborhood. Police arrived at the scene just before 9:15 a.m. and confirmed that she had suffered at least one gunshot wound to the abdomen. Sadly, she was pronounced dead on site, and her identity is yet to be disclosed to the public.

As the community grapples with this incident, authorities have yet to piece together the events that led to the shooting. Notably, no other injuries were reported, which adds another layer of mystery to the case.

For the residents of West Rogers Park, this incident has shattered the tranquility of their usually peaceful block, leaving them on edge as police tape marks the scene of the crime. The community now waits in hope for answers and justice for the victim.

The normally quiet West Rodgers Park block was draped in police tape and neighbors were left uneasy Friday.

“It’s shocking, you know, it’s just… you wouldn’t expect it in your building. But like I said, it’s everywhere,” condo complex resident Hipolito Bello said.

Bello lives in the two-building condo complex, where police say the 36-year-old woman was found dead inside her second-floor unit.

The discovery was made during a well-being check, that according to police radio communications was ordered by OEMC’s deputy director of 911 services.

A person on police radio communications can be heard saying, “This is a check of well-being from our deputy director… she did a no-call, no-show today and they’re not able to contact her via phone.”

Hours after the discovery, a memo was sent to OEMC staff announcing the passing of a “Senior Administrative Assistant” who previously worked for the Chicago Department of Public Health.

“It’s very shocking for me now,” former condo complex resident Nadim Akhtar said. “I’m shocked. I never expect that kind of, you know, situation happen.”

Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting. Area Three detectives are investigating the death as a homicide, CPD officials said.

“A little weary, especially knowing that they didn’t catch anybody, so it’s definitely putting me on alert,” neighborhood resident Darnell Tripp said.

Messages left by ABC7 for an OEMC spokesperson were not returned. The Cook County Medical Examiner has not released the name of that victim pending notification of family.

Alderman Debra Silverstein of the 50th Ward issued a statement, saying ” The 24th District Police notified me of a shooting that occurred in the neighboring 40th Ward, on the 6900 block of N Bell. According to the police, a female victim was found dead in her home. Anyone with information should please call the Area 3 Bureau of Detectives at (312) 744-8263. This is an active police investigation, and I will update you with more information when it becomes available.”
