Authorities detained several individuals for questioning on Friday night following a fatal stabbing incident involving an elderly man, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A tragic stabbing has claimed the life of a man in the Moncrief Park area, according to information from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon.
Police officers arrived at the location near the junction of West 30th Street and Leonard Circle East around 3:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Rudlaff, who addressed the media during a Friday night press briefing.
The victim, believed to be between 65 and 70 years old, suffered a stab wound to his chest. Despite being rushed to the hospital and undergoing surgery, he succumbed to his injuries, Sgt. Rudlaff confirmed.
Journalists from First Coast News observed crime scene investigators repeatedly entering and exiting a house on the street, which had been cordoned off with police tape. As the investigation is ongoing, details about the incident remain scarce.
While no suspects have been officially identified, Sgt. Rudlaff noted that several individuals were taken in for questioning. Authorities believe there is no ongoing threat to the community at this time.
