Trump celebrates Nadler calling it 'quits'

(The Hill) — On Friday, President Donald Trump celebrated Rep. Jerry Nadler’s (D-N.Y.) decision to retire from Congress at the end of the term, describing the New York liberal as “disgusting.”

“Jerry Nadler, one of the most disgusting Congressmen in USA History is, at long last, calling it ‘quits’ – He’s finally leaving Congress,” Trump commented in a Truth Social post.

The president continued, “I’ve been beating this bum for 40 years, first as a New York City developer, where he opposed me, for no reason, at every corner, but could NEVER stop me from getting the job done, and then, as your President, where this psychopathic nut job, together with Crazy [former House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi, Impeached me twice, AND LOST, wasting Millions of Dollars in time and taxpayer money.”

Nadler, who served in the House for over three decades, revealed he would not seek reelection in an interview with The New York Times.

“Watching the [former President Joe] Biden thing really said something about the necessity for generational change in the party, and I think I want to respect that,” Nadler told the newspaper, mentioning that a younger candidate “can maybe do better, can maybe help us more.”

The lawmaker became the chair of the House Judiciary Committee at the start of the president’s first term in 2017, eventually overseeing two impeachment trials against Trump.

Nadler withdrew from the race for the top Democratic post on the committee earlier this year, explaining that he wanted to make room for younger candidates in Congress. He later endorsed Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who belongs to the generation below him, to serve as ranking member.

The New York Democrat is currently serving his 17th term in the House.

“It will be a great day for the U.S.A. when Nadler, a pathetic lightweight, is out of office and leaves our beautiful, and NOW VERY SAFE, Washington, D.C.,” Trump wrote Friday.
