Trump says ‘I would’ arrest Gavin Newsom after California gov dares border czar to cuff him

WASHINGTON — On Monday, President Trump remarked that he would detain California Governor Gavin Newsom if he were in the position of border czar Tom Homan, following the chaos caused by anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles over the weekend.

“I would do it, if I were Tom,” Trump told reporters upon returning to the White House from Camp David.

“Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it would be a great thing,” the president went on.

“I like Gavin Newsom. He’s a nice guy, but he’s grossly incompetent, everybody knows that.”

In a statement to NBC News on Sunday night, Newsom challenged Homan to detain him, saying, “Come after me. Arrest me. Let’s settle this, tough guy.”

Homan had previously indicated that both Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass might face legal consequences for their efforts to impede ICE agents from deporting undocumented immigrants.
