A former US Air Force pilot has set a new world record by skiing over an asphalt parking lot at speeds approaching 70 mph, as reported by authorities.

Johnny Cruz Buckingham, already a holder of more than a dozen world records, claimed the title for the fastest towed asphalt skiing last August, as confirmed by Guinness World Records on Friday.

Buckingham achieved this feat by being towed by a car along a specifically measured flat track while wearing skis. He made several runs until he felt assured of his performance, according to the agency.

After some practice runs, a radar speed gun documented him reaching an impressive 69 mph, officially breaking the record.

Known for his thrill-seeking adventures, Buckingham, also nicknamed “MrWorldRecords,” has achieved five additional records since August. These include completing 104 knife fire spins on a balance board in one minute and the fastest time to pop 100 balloons with his feet in just 19.78 seconds, officials noted.

He also set the record for the quickest visit to all New York City ferry stations, accomplishing the feat in 6 hours and 59 minutes.

In February 2025, he broke the record for the fastest time to travel all seven continents — in just two days and 16 hours during a second attempt.

The serial record-breaker told Guinness World Records officials that he was inspired to achieve this specific asphalt-skiing title to prove to his son that anything is possible.

“I want to inspire my child, Hurricane Thomas Buckingham, to set big goals and reach for the stars,” he said. “This record is for you, Champ!”
