(The Hill) – President Trump suggested Monday that his administration has reached a deal on TikTok amid trade talks between the U.S. and China.
“The major Trade Meeting in Europe between the United States and China has been VERY SUCCESSFUL! It will be wrapping up shortly,” he posted on Truth Social. “An agreement was also achieved regarding a ‘certain’ company that young people in our country were eager to preserve. They will be very pleased!”
“I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday,” he continued. “The relationship remains a very strong one!!!”
A law mandating TikTok’s parent company, based in China, to sell the app or face a U.S. ban was initially scheduled to take effect in January but has repeatedly been postponed by the Trump administration as the president pursued a deal. The current extension is due to expire on Wednesday.
