Trump says Israel, Iran must 'stop shooting' after airstrikes rock Tehran

On Monday, President Trump urged both Israel and Iran to halt their hostilities following a tense night marked by significant military exchanges. This is the first time Trump has spoken publicly since the two nations engaged in their most intense confrontation since the ceasefire agreement in April.

In a succinct message on Truth Social, Trump stated, “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting,'” following a dramatic escalation in which Iran launched three missile attacks towards Israel, prompting Israeli forces to retaliate by targeting truck-mounted surface-to-air missile launchers spread across Iran.

As of now, there have been no reports of casualties resulting from these military actions.

The Iranian offensive against Israel marks the first breach of the ceasefire that was established on April 8. Despite the heightened tensions, there has been no indication of the United States resuming military actions against Tehran in response.

Early Monday morning, Iran unleashed a barrage of attacks on Israeli territory, prompting Israel to carry out retaliatory airstrikes across central and western Iran.

Loud explosions were reported in the cities of Isfahan, Karaj, Tabriz, and Tehran. Iranian state media has reported an Israeli attack on a petrochemical facility in Mahshahr, located in the Khuzestan province.

Meanwhile, Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard boasted that attacks on Israel’s Tel-Nof and Nevatim air bases had begun as part of Operation Nasr.

“This operation was carried out in response to the child-killing Zionist regime’s missile aggression against several radar sites in three parts of the country,” the regime said.

The IRGC Intelligence Organization claimed the overnight operations were a “100 out of 100 success.” Foreign ministry officials say the strikes were carried out in self-defense.

Israel said its strikes were in response to an Iranian missile attack. Tehran had warned on Sunday it would retaliate after Israel struck Beirut’s southern suburbs without warning. When Israel struck back, Iran fired again.

But Tehran has wildly blamed the US, as opposed to Israel, for the overnight escalation.

“No one believes that the Israeli regime would take any action without coordination with the United States,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei blasted.

“The United States bears responsibility for the Israeli regime’s aggression, and it will also be responsible for the consequences of any escalation in tensions.”
