Amid a whirlwind of priorities, President Donald Trump has made it clear that he expects the Senate Republicans to expedite the passage of the SAVE America Act. Late Saturday night, he reminded them of this expectation, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
Scott Presler, an advocate tirelessly campaigning for the bill, appeared on Fox & Friends Sunday, urging Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota to utilize the talking filibuster to push the legislation forward. In response, Trump took to Truth Social, intensifying the pressure by declaring he would not sign any other bills until the SAVE America Act is passed in its original form, without any dilution.
This strategic move could be pivotal in swaying the seemingly intransigent Thune and might empower other Senate Republicans to exert pressure. For legislators, halting the regular flow of pet projects and favorable legislation is no small matter, and such a disruption could indeed be significant.
In his message, Trump emphasized the urgency, while Scott Presler, during his TV appearance, highlighted the stakes involved.
Adding to the political intrigue, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, currently locked in a runoff primary with Senator John Cornyn, declared on Thursday that he would withdraw from the race if Senate leadership agrees to eliminate the filibuster and pass the SAVE America Act. Paxton accused Cornyn of reluctance in supporting the abolition of the filibuster, which he sees as essential for the bill’s passage.
Great Job by hard working Scott Pressler on Fox & Friends talking about using the Filibuster, or Talking Filibuster, in order to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, an 88% issue with ALL VOTERS. It must be done immediately. It supersedes everything else. MUST GO TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE. I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION – GO FOR THE GOLD: MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. & PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP: NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS EXCEPT FOR MILITARY – ILLNESS, DISABILITY, TRAVEL: NO MEN IN WOMEN’S SPORTS: NO TRANSGENDER MUTILIZATION [sic] FOR CHILDREN! DO NOT FAIL!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP
In his appearance, Presler said:
If you want to do right by the American people that duly elected you into the seats that you are in right now when we gave Republicans the opportunity to lead and be the adults in the room, pass the SAVE America Act into law, and I think that we are going to see a surge of voters come out in the midterm elections.”
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who’s currently in a runoff primary election with Sen. John Cornyn, said Thursday that he would drop out of the race if “Senate Leadership agrees to lift the filibuster and passes the SAVE America Act,” claiming that Cornyn “has refused to support abolishing the filibuster to pass this bill.”
The Save America Act is the most important bill the U.S. Senate could ever pass, and I’m committed to helping President Trump get it done.
I would consider dropping out of this race if Senate Leadership agrees to lift the filibuster and passes the SAVE America Act.

Cornyn, who co-sponsored the bill, came out in support of using the talking filibuster to get the bill passed on Saturday.
Contrary to fake news in the twitterverse: I have supported the Save America Act from day one. I will happily support the “talking filibuster” if that’s what it takes to pass this into law. @realDonaldTrump

Elderly Senators like Mitch McConnell are against taking that step, because it would require all of the Republican Senators to be physically present at the Capitol for the duration of the filibuster; McConnell needs to realize that the ability to be physically present during a talking filibuster is a job requirement, and any senators who can’t fulfill it need to retire. Since Republicans will be losing Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) around the end of the month when he will have to resign to take on the role of Secretary of Homeland Security, it’s even more important that Republicans do whatever it takes to get the bill passed as soon as possible.
