CALIFORNIA experienced two earthquakes on Thursday morning, occurring within minutes of each other.
The tremors started with an initial 4.4 magnitude earthquake, quickly followed by a substantial aftershock.
The initial quake was centered in San Bernardino County, striking at 9:32 am local time, as reported by the US Geological Survey.
Residents across the Inland Empire felt the shaking, with reports extending to Los Angeles and San Diego.
The earthquake’s depth was recorded at 3.3 miles, according to the USGS.
No injuries or damage were reported immediately following the quakes.
An hour before the massive quake, the Rialto area was shook by two smaller earthquakes measuring at magnitude 3.0 and 2.8.
Residents reported feeling a jolt or sudden movement in areas as far as Redondo Beach, California.
The earthquake likely occurred near the San Andreas Fault.
The area is known for its seismic activity.
In the past 10 days, there have been three earthquakes of over 3.0 magnitude centered nearby.
The tremor also comes three days after a massive earthquake struck off Russia’s eastern coast.
The impact triggered tsunami warnings in Hawaii, Japan, and areas of the US West Coast.
At magnitude 8.8, it was recorded as the sixth most powerful quake ever.
