'Heinous': Two men arrested in string of armed robberies across Jacksonville

In a significant breakthrough, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has arrested two individuals linked to a series of “violent” armed robberies that shook Jacksonville this past June. The arrests were announced on Tuesday, bringing a sense of relief to the community concerned by the recent criminal activity.

The suspects, identified as Richard King, aged 25, and James Weaver, aged 38, are now in custody. The duo faces multiple charges connected to five separate robberies that reportedly occurred over a span of ten days during June 2025.

Authorities reveal a chilling pattern in the robberies. King and Weaver allegedly targeted cashiers, waiting for moments when they were alone. At gunpoint, they demanded cash and, in a disturbing twist, would pepper-spray their victims before making their escape. This added element of violence has been described by law enforcement as particularly egregious.

Sgt. Christopher Smith of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office expressed the severity of the crimes, stating, “It’s one thing to hold someone at gunpoint and demand their cooperation, but to then pepper-spray them afterward is truly heinous.”

Both men now face five charges of armed robbery as documented in court records. The community and law enforcement hope these arrests will deter further incidents and restore a sense of safety to the area.

King and Weaver each face five armed robbery charges, according to court records.

“Detective Raquel Anderson with our Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit led the investigation, working tirelessly to stop the brazen attacks,” JSO said in a release. “She reviewed hours of store surveillance video, tracked leads, and partnered with our Real Time Crime Center to identify a key piece of evidence. We recognized Detective Anderson’s efforts by naming her one of our Detectives of the Month. Her efforts go beyond just this case, as she works to make Duval safer every day.”
