2 teens busted in NYC carjacking rampage that ended with one menace trying to run over a cop: NYPD

Two 16-year-old boys were arrested late Thursday after a chaotic armed carjacking spree in Brooklyn that police said ended when one teen allegedly drove at an officer, prompting the cop to fire a shot.

The sequence began around 7:40 p.m. in Homecrest, where the teens allegedly confronted a 24-year-old man on East 16th Street near Avenue P, displayed a gun and tried to rob him, authorities said.

The victim managed to run away before the pair could take anything, police said.

The teens then fled toward East 15th Street and Avenue O, where they allegedly approached a 23-year-old man at gunpoint and pulled him out of his Toyota Camry, according to police.

They sped off in the stolen vehicle, but the getaway was short-lived: the Camry crashed a short time later, police said.

Officers arrested one of the teens after the crash, while the other fled and soon encountered a 54-year-old woman standing outside her Toyota RAV-4 on Kimball Street near Avenue T, authorities said.

He allegedly jumped into the SUV and drove away, heading toward East 100th Street and Avenue K, police said.

Police caught up with the stolen RAV-4 around 8:40 p.m. and attempted to box it in by blocking the street, but the teen allegedly drove onto the sidewalk toward an officer, who fired one shot at the SUV, authorities said.

The teen wasn’t hit and kept driving until he crashed at Pennsylvania and Wortman avenues – where cops finally slapped cuffs on him.

One of the madmen was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and obstruction of governmental administration, while the other faces two counts of robbery, according to the NYPD.

It was not immediately clear which of the two attempted to hit the officer.

The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is probing the incident.
