In a dramatic turn of events, a former probation officer has been sentenced to eight months in prison after CCTV footage revealed her illicit relationship with a convicted murderer. The footage captured Bethany Dent-Reynolds, 27, in a compromising position as she was seen kissing Kieran Robinson during a prison visit.
The origins of this controversial relationship trace back to when Dent-Reynolds was employed at HMP Belmarsh in South East London. It was there that she first crossed paths with Robinson, who is currently serving a 23-year sentence for the fatal stabbing of teenager Donnell Rhule, a crime committed alongside his cousin Sean Robinson in July 2020.
Interestingly, their relationship took a romantic turn only after Dent-Reynolds transitioned to a probation officer position at HMP Brixton, another facility located nearly an hour’s journey away. The court at Woolwich Crown heard that it was Robinson who initiated contact by reaching out to Dent-Reynolds on social media.
Subsequently, Dent-Reynolds visited Robinson several times in prison, and their interactions escalated to exchanging numerous sexually explicit messages and phone calls. The Sun reports that these clandestine communications further fueled their inappropriate liaison, ultimately leading to Dent-Reynolds’ downfall.
Robinson messaged Dent-Reynolds first on social media before she visited him several times in jail, The Sun reports.
The two shared a number of sexually explicit messages and phone calls with each other.
She also accessed restricted records about his murder case on a probation computer system and discussed the findings with him, telling him his co-defendants “all stuck it on you”.
Robinson was eventually transferred to HMP Lowdham Grange, a facility located about 3 hours north of London in Nottinghamshire, where Dent‑Reynolds continued to visit him, the Liverpool Echo reports.
During one visit, footage from the Category B prison captured the pair embracing and sharing a kiss before sitting down on adjacent sofas.
Dent‑Reynolds and Robinson were also seen holding hands as they chatted during the visit, even when another individual can be seen approaching them.
At the former probation officer’s sentencing last week, prosecutor Sam Willis said: “In a nutshell, while working for His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMS), the defendant engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a serving prisoner.”
He continued by explaining that the “defendant’s mobile telephone was downloaded and examined”, exposing “numerous WhatsApp messages between the defendant and Kieran Robinson”.
The unlikely pair were found to have exchanged “messages of a sexual nature, images and a message from Robinson asking her for a ‘favor’,” the Daily Mail reports.
The prosecutor added: “She told Robinson ‘everyone had prepared statements except for you,’” before adding: “When I was reading it I was like oh my God this is f–king ridiculous. Yeah, makes me angry, but also makes me upset angry. I don’t know like, it’s a mix of emotions, I just want you out.”
Chantelle Stocks, defending Dent-Reynolds, said her client was of previous “impeccable good character”.
“This is not a case where there has been any suggestion of in-person physical sexual contact between the pair,” she said.
“For the most part they exchanged sweet nothings that had minimal impact.”
Messages shown to the court, and reported by The Lewisham Letter, show one message Robinson sent Dent-Reynolds wishing her an “amazing day.”
The former prison officer replied: “You too my sweetheart.”
But it also appears to show the pair had bickered over something, with Robinson writing he was “sorry” as Dent-Reynolds responded: “It’s forgotten I promise.”
She was handed an eight-month prison sentence over the “inappropriate” relationship.
